In an exclusive interview Dr. Mohammad Akbar Wardak, expert of Afghanistan affairs in France, regarded to Iran as a powerful and influential country in the Middle East and pointed to the importance of NAM summit in Tehran.

Q: The XVI NAM summit will be held in Tehran before long. How do you evaluate this meeting in the midst of current regional and global crisis?

Historically, NAM started its job in a bipolar world, yet after the collapse of Soviet Union the need to keep this organization gradually decreased. This was due to the fact that NAM member states did not intend to choose a side, either Soviet Union or America, in the cold war.

Q: It seems that the world is going to reorder itself into a bipolar mode once again. Offensive standpoint of America from one side and shanghai cooperation organization, including Russia, China and other countries, from the other side seem to be the next poles in this world. How do you see this situation?

Tehran summit is held in a time when there is regional crisis. Israel and America, based on no evidence, condemn Iran for alleged efforts of producing nuclear weapons. This issue necessitates holding such summit so that NAM members could earn political power and take firm political stances for their interests. In my opinion Iran can provide such opportunity for NAM members and itself through this summit.

Q: In the current situation, the world is facing with severe crisis which is due to the dominating policies of America that affects the UN and its sub-branches. Can a revived NAM, rescue these organizations from US monopoly and bring them back to their original path?

Theoretically, the existence of UN is an important concept, since it can act for peace and stability in the world. As you mentioned, a French journalist had referred to UN as the secretariat of US department of state. Whatever the US foreign policy exerts is practiced and confirmed by the UN. If NAM cannot create substantial changes, at least, it can approach to balance political and diplomatic power among nations. I believe that reviving NAM is a beneficial measure.

Q: Today nations are awakened and mostly are not satisfied with their government's policies, the Wall Street Movement which is generated against US policies serves as a good example. In your opinion, if the nations stay beside the Non-Aligned Movement, can they together, terminate the colonizing policies that empowers 1% minority to the 99% majority?

If we consider this from a historical point of view, we will conclude that all political movements which have been generated in the world, have achieved their goals; but unfortunately it's just a matter of time, there is no doubt that those who seek peace shall eventually see their goal accomplished; yet, this is not possible within 10 or even 20 years and needs a longer time. But, as you mentioned truly, this is unfortunate to admit that a minority dominates over a majority's fate in the world; because they have all economic, political and media tools, etc, in their hands; nonetheless, the nations will finally achieve their goals, but as I said, it takes time.

Q- There are countries in the world, especially in our region, which desperately adhere to the colonizing policies of the US, you can see that in Syria, of course Syria needs reforms, normally it should be conducted through talks; however, there are other objectives being sought in Syria in order to topple the Syrian government in favor of Zionist's interests, the conspiracy in which US, Europe, Turkey and some Arab countries are involved. In your idea, what approaches must be taken toward these countries?

There is No doubt that in Syria issue there are traces of foreign powers' hands, and these powers reinforce the Syria opposition forces and help them, and surely such events are part of west's strategic objectives.
